Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr says Odion Ighalo is eager to play for the team again following his two-year absence.

The 32-year-old announced his retirement from the Super Eagles after the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Ighalo is now back in the squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against the Lone Star of Liberia and Blue Sharks of Cape Verde.

“Ighalo wanted to retire (from international football) after the 2019 AFCON,” Rohr told a news conference ahead of the clash against Liberia.

“He changed his club and he also wanted to spend time with his family, but now the motivation is there for him to come back to help us.

“He’s experienced, we have a very young team. Ighalo’s goalscoring qualities, his experience and professionalism can help the young players especially in the attack to be more efficient, and we are all happy about this.”
