Former Rangers manager Ally McCoist has advised the club to bring back Leon Balogun to the Ibrox, reports Pnosports.com.
Rangers failed to offer the centre-back a new deal following the expiration of his contract in June.
Balogun was a popular figure at the Ibrox during his two-year stint at the club.
The 33-year-old contributed to the Gers Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup success in his time at the club.
Rangers struggled at the back during Tuesday night’s UEFA Champions League playoff round clash against PSV Eindhoven.
McCoist reckoned that allowing Balogun leave was a mistake as the Nigerian experience is still needed at the club.
“I mentioned that before the first goal, Rangers looked small. PSV looked big, and I thought set plays were going to be important.
“Sands isn’t a natural centre-back, would Balogun have made a difference,”McCoist was quoted by the Daily Record.
“He’s sitting up in the stands watching Rangers on Saturday, I’m not sure I would have let him go. Souttar has injuries, you know, Helander, obviously.
“Perhaps there is (a case to bring Balogun back), it’s not hindsight, I was surprised to see him go, I really was.
” I tell you what, we could have done with him tonight. He’s got height, he’s got a presence, and scored goals in Europe.”
