Kwara United Football Club has been commended for doing the country proud in the ongoing TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup competition, after a draw against AS Douanes of Niger Republic in Niamey on Sunday progressed the Nigerian side to the next round.
The Media Officer of the club, Mr Jimoh Bashir, made this known in a statement on Monday in Ilorin.
Nigerian Ambassador to the Republic of Niger, Mr Mohammed Usman, made the commendation while receiving the team and its officials, as well as the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Head of Delegation, Malam Ibrahim Gusau, at the Embassy.
According to Usman, who was represented by the Embassy’s Head of Chancery, Malam Awalu Liti, “the victory is for our dear nation, Nigeria”.
“He also commended the team for approaching the blood spilling incidence at the Stadium with maturity, adding that it’s very important for the encouragement of cordial relationship with the host country,” said the statement.
The NFF Head of Delegation, Malam Ibrahim Gusau, thanked the Embassy for supporting the team since arriving Niger Republic.
He also said that the team, against all odds, especially in the aftermath of the ugly incident, went ahead to pull out a goalless draw, which made it qualify on 3-0 aggregate.
The Executive Chairman of the Kwara Sports Commission, Malam Bola Mogaji, also appreciated the Embassy on behalf of state government, adding that the reception for the team is a great encouragement.
The team comprised 20 players; the Chairman, Kumbi Titiloye; the General Manager, Bashir Badawiy; the state FA Chairman, Malam Idris Musa, among others.
According to the media officer, the team was received by other Embassy officials, including Aminu Saifullah, Chika Bello, Peter Jatau, Group Captain Iliya Mato and Bello Yahaya. (NAN)
