Nigerian champions, Bayelsa Queens lost 2-1 to holders Mamelodi Sundowns in their opening Group B game at the 2022 CAF Women’s Champions League.

The Prosperity Girls dominated play in the game but were let down by their profligacy in front of goal.

Lelona Daweti opened scoring for the South Africans with a stunning strike a minute after the hour mark.

Bayelsa Queens tried to get back into the game but couldn’t find a way past the Sundowns defence.

Domo Okara’s side conceded again in the 57th minute with Daweti scoring her second of the game.

Mary-Magdalene Anjor reduced the deficit for Bayelsa Queens 10 minutes from time.

Mamelodi Sundowns held on to win the game despite  late pressure from Nigerians.

Bayelsa Queens will take on TP Mazembe of Congo Democratic Republic in their next game on  Thursday.
