Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State on Wednesday in Akure expressed confidence that the state’s contingent to the upcoming National Sports Festival (NSF) in Asaba would perform beyond expectations.

Akeredolu, while receiving the festival’s Torch of Unity from representatives of the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, said this was because they had been well prepared for the competition.

The governor, represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Bamidele Ologun, said all necessary logistics had been put in place to ensure a successful outing at the festival.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 21st edition of the NSF will hold from Nov. 28 to Dec. 10 in Asaba, Delta.

Akeredolu said Ondo State was fully ready for a beautiful outing as the athletes had been prepared and well motivated for the festival which Team Delta won its 20th edition.

“The commitment to developing sports in the state is strong and our target is for the athletes to do the state proud with their performance,” he said.

At the ceremony to receive the festival’s torch was the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, who was represented by a Deputy Director in the ministry, Amaka Achiefu.

While speaking, he said the torch of unity transmits the message of peace,unity and tolerance.

He then called on all stakeholders to ensure that sports was taken to an enviable height in the nation.

The General Manager of Ondo State Sports Council, Henry Babatunde, applauded Ondo State Government’s efforts in ensuring the state’s preparation for the 2022 festival was a great one.

Babatunde said 194 athletes from the state had been equipped to take part in the festival which was last held in Benin in 2021.

According to him, the Ondo State contingent would participate in 20 sports at the festival.(NAN)
